ABOUT ALEX

Alex Perici Calascione was born in Valletta on the 17th June 1962. After receiving his primary education at Saint Joseph’s School, Blata l-Bajda, he attended Saint Aloysius’ College, Birkirkara where he received his secondary and sixth form education. He graduated as a lawyer from the University of Malta in November 1986 and was granted the warrant to practise the legal profession in February 1987.

Throughout his career, Alex Perici Calascione acted as legal advisor to a number of leading Maltese and foreign companies and organizations. He has also assisted a number of companies and organizations in the identification of EU funds for their particular projects. Alex was appointed Commissioner of Justice in 1991 and served until 1996. He was a member of the legal team appearing for Malta in one of the proceedings before The European Court of Justice.

Having served as a partner at EMA Advocates, he was subsequently the founding partner of PCM Legal in 2011.

Alex Perici Calascione has worked for a number of years within the sphere of voluntary organizations for disabled persons, primarily on the board of governors of Razzett tal-Hbiberija (today part of Inspire) between 1998 and 2008.

He served as a Director of the Board of AZAD (the Academy for the Development of a Democratic Environment) and subsequently as a member of the first Board of Administrators of AZAD upon its establishment as a foundation.

He was elected to the Executive Committee of the Party in March 2013 and subsequently elected to the post of Party Treasurer and Member of the Administrative Council.He was elected once again to the Executive Committee of the Nationalist Party and subsequently confirmed as Party Treasurer on the 4th. June 2015. During his term as Party Treasurer he participated actively in the general financial restructuring of the Party and also spearheaded the process to have the Party be the first of the two major Maltese political parties to successfully submit its application in terms of the then newly-enacted Party Financing Act.

Following his re-election as Executive Member in 2017 he was elected as President of the Executive Committee of the Nationalist Party on the 4th July 2019 a post held until July 2021. During his term as President of the Executive Committee he has presided over wide sweeping reforms aimed at modernising the Party.

In November 2020 Alex Perici Calascione was approved as a candidate for the forthcoming General Election on the 8th and 11th Electoral Districts.

Alex married MayAnne née Pisani on the 3rd May 1986. They have three children: Maria Elena (wife of Jude Schembri); Veronica Anne, and John Joseph and one grand-daughter Elizabeth born in August 2021.
